Use the Native Instagram App

While there are many third-party apps that let you post to Instagram, using the official Instagram app is the easiest way to upload photos. The interface is intuitive and the app is optimized for smooth, fast uploads.

To get started:

  1. Open the Instagram app on your iPhone

  2. Tap the + icon at the bottom center of the screen

  3. Select the photo you want to post from your camera roll

Choose the Right Aspect Ratio

Instagram supports several different aspect ratios for photos:

  • Square (1:1)

  • Portrait (4:5)

  • Landscape (1.91:1)

For the most flexibility, shoot your photos in square or portrait orientation. This will ensure they fill the frame well without awkward cropping.

If you have a horizontal photo you want to post, use Instagram's adjustable cropping tool to select the most important part of the image to feature.

Alternatively, try using the Repicture app to easily resize your photos into Instagram-ready square, portrait, landscape, or story formats.

Edit Like a Pro

Before posting, take advantage of Instagram's built-in editing tools to make your photos pop:

  • Adjust brightness, contrast, saturation, and warmth

  • Experiment with filters for a stylized look

  • Try the tilt-shift tool for a cool miniaturized effect

A few subtle tweaks can take your photo from flat to fabulous.

Add Engaging Captions and Hashtags

A great Instagram post is about more than just the photo. Writing an interesting, engaging caption will help draw in your audience. A few tips:

  • Keep it short and punchy. Captions cut off in the feed after a few lines, so put the most important info first.

  • Use emojis to add personality and break up the text.

  • Include relevant hashtags to make your post discoverable to new audiences. But don't go overboard - 5-10 hashtags is plenty.

Tag Your Location for Extra Reach

Whenever possible, tag your location when uploading a photo. Posts with a tagged location get more engagement, on average, than posts without.

Tagging your location makes your post show up when people search for that place or click on the location tag. It's an easy way to expand your reach to a relevant local audience.

Upload Photos in the Best Quality

Instagram may automatically adjust the upload quality based on network conditions.

Before uploading photos, make sure that "Upload at highest quality" is turned on in the "Media quality" settings of the Instagram app on your iPhone.

This will ensure that your photos and videos are always uploaded in the highest quality.

Schedule Posts in Advance

Consistency is key on Instagram.

According to social media scheduling platform Later analyzed over 19 million feed posts, the sweet spot is 2-5 posts per week. Also the Later's post states that the quality of your posts is just as important as frequency. Focus on creating high-quality, engaging content that resonates with your audience. It's better to post less often than to sacrifice quality for quantity.

Spend a little time each week planning and scheduling your posts, so you never miss a day.

With these tips in your back pocket, you're ready to become an Instagram pro. Happy posting!
